​Houses are designed to maximize solar heat gain in winter through triple-pane windows. Then in summer, overhangs are carefully calculated to prevent direct solar heat gain.

The walls, attic and foundation each receive higher insulation values than homes built to International Building Code, Energy Star and LEED specifications.

Air infiltration is minimized by a continuous vapor barrier installed directly behind the sheetrock. Once air is conditioned, it remains within the house.
