Live outside the box.
Creating a home from a Quonset Hut is not a new idea. But Quonset Huts can be dark. We turned the hut so that the arch opened to the south to maximize sunlight.
A utilitarian building like a Quonset Hut can look cheap. Mixing shapes, materials, and changing the orientation elevates a simple structure.
Front Porch
The front door is recessed into the supporting wall of the Quonset Hut for an unexpected negative space.
Entry
The entry immediately presents a rich palette of textures and shapes to draw the eye in.
Living
The living room is spacious, with room allotted for a suspended fireplace for those in cooler climates.
Eating
The first floor offers open concept living, with space for intimate gatherings and large parties.

Powder Room
A dainty half bath is tucked under the stairs just off the kitchen and opposite the large laundry/utility room.
Stairs
The stairs may be the best part of this house, with the ceiling curving far over head. It's the perfect place for a statement light fixture.
Sleeping
There are many ways to arrange the owners suite. Shown here, a queen bed is tucked against the curved wall with a seating area opposite.
Sleeping
Viewed from the bed, the seating area leads to the en suite bath.
Washing
A bold house needs bold tile.
Washing
Vanity for two.
Sleeping
The play of materials continues in the bedrooms, with maple floors, metal ceiling, clean drywall, and wool felt light fixtures.
Washing
Nothing transforms simple elements quite like a tall ceiling.
Washing
Crisp, white and clean--with a blue hexagon floor to spice things up.
Sleeping
Because of the curved roof and a room's placement along that curve, each space is unique. This bedroom is the same size as the other secondary bedroom, but feels much airier.

Queen Anne Victorian
This house was loved to an aesthetic death in the 1950s. Bringing it back from the dead was a labor of love, but well worth the effort.
Historic Preservation Award
We were honored to receive the Historic Preservation award from the Metro Historic Zoning Commission award in 2018 for this home.
Living
The front door opens to a formal living room. Though no longer functional, the fireplace is the focal point of the room. But the pièce de résistance must be the goose down light fixture.
Music Making
The music room sits just behind the living room.

Playing
Leaving behind the elegance of the downstairs, upstairs is for relaxing.

Vintage furniture, an art table and even an indoor swing.
